How to Prevent Depression Using Anger Control Tips

By Eddy Kong Wai W

Depression and anger are in a sense somewhat related. Why? Imagine a scenario where you have tried and tried your best in order to achieve or accomplish something ending up failing or not getting any recognition in the end. At first you will obviously feel depressed because of the outcome, but as time goes on, this depression can result to anger, resulting to blame, resentment, hatred and hostility towards the people who have either belittled your accomplishment or ignored you totally.

If you are aiming to prevent depression and anger altogether while only using a singular technique, then there may be a few that you can choose from. Remember that these emotions may be brought about separately or can result from only one event; meaning that you can feel depressed about something yet feel angry at another thing, limiting the amount of techniques that you can use in order to deal with both.

At this point, self-help techniques for anger techniques will be somewhat no longer applicable as they are mainly designed to control the emotions and thoughts associated with anger and not with depression. Breathing techniques, imagery, relaxation, meditation, yoga, and the like for example will prove to be useless when dealing with both depression and anger. To give you an idea as to what anger management methods you can use for both, here are a few examples:

Art Therapy: By using art to get you connected with your inner issues and allowing you to bring them out constructively, you will be able to get out of the depressed state that you are in as well as manage your anger. Art forms like music; painting, sculpting, and clay modeling have been used by psychology experts in order to help individuals deal with their emotions. Classes may be given in groups or in one on one sessions and can vary in cost depending on the length of time and the approach used, and is not offered online.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is another method that you can use if you want to deal with depression and anger at the same time. This approach is used by experts to teach individuals in changing the way that they think and perceive things in order to prevent anger and depression from setting in. It is known to be one of the most effective methods available today, and classes can take anywhere from weeks to months.

There may be more depression and anger techniques available out there, but the two mentioned above so far have created the greatest impact when it comes to effectiveness and safety. If you want to know other methods aside from art therapy and CBT, check the internet or ask your mental health provider as they may have better or different alternatives that they can offer.
