Anger Management Through Hypnotherapy

Author: Rusty Pile

Many people with anger management issues seek help through individual or group counseling sessions and classes. Counseling can take years and cost a small fortune. And of course there is no guarantee that your problem will be resolved. But there is another option. Hypnosis therapy can change your self-perception to break the anger cycle and help you manage your anger. With this shift in your focus, the trigger situations may remain the same but your perception and reaction to the trigger is different. This substantial difference separates the truly relaxed, “non-angry” people from the angry ones who might be holding this temper tantrum inside, but will have a worse explosion next time.

Angry behavior that is out of control is always destructive. It can cost you friends, family relationships, your job, and sometimes more. Most people who have difficulty controlling their tempers are trapped in an endless pattern of explosion and remorse.

Triggers of anger can be both external and internal. Anger can be directed at specific things that are outside your control such as a person (for example, a supervisor or family member) or event (such as long lines or computer problems). Internal sources of anger include worrying about personal problems or the recalling of painful and traumatic memories.

The goal of anger management is to reduce both your emotional feelings and the physiological arousal that anger produces. Intellectually, we may know that we cannot control the anger stimulating situations or people and only have control over our own reactions however practicing self-control is challenging to many people. Hypnosis is a very healthy way to train ourselves to respond to situations with calm and thoughtful reactions.

Hypnosis can help you learn new behavioral patterns and strengthen positive reinforcement to these new patterns. Through hypnotherapy, you learn to accept and adapt new ways of behavior, thoughts, and actions, as well as learn to practice these new ways of reacting. Certified hypnotherapist Michael Bartlett, founder of Clarity Hypnotherapy in Phoenix, Arizona says “…hypnotherapy is the fastest, most effective way to positively change behaviors and increase personal abilities.” Mr. Bartlett’s extensive work with Phoenix anger management hypnotherapy patients is an ongoing endeavor.
