How to Control Anger Outbursts – Time Tested Ways to Help You in Almost Every Situation

By BK Carter

Are you sick of feeling awful after you have had an anger outburst? Are you ready to get rid of that feeling of regret? If you take some or all of the steps that I’m about to describe to heart and really put them to work you should be able to control your anger outbursts and start feeling better about yourself and the rest of your life.

The first thing you need to do is train yourself to walk away. Walking away will give you some cooling off time. You will then be able to figure out if your anger is justified and whether what just happened to you will mean anything to you tomorrow. Eighty percent of the time what happened will not make a difference and you’ll be able to forgive and move on.

Once you have decided that you need to do something about the situation, you will need to decide how you are going to handle it. If you are angry because someone said you were wrong about something, find the answer. If you were wrong, then apologize for blowing up over something you were wrong about and if you were right, do not rub it in the other person’s face. Instead apologize for acting the way you did and present the correct answer in a thoughtful way without accusing the other person of being stupid or anything like that.

If you find that your outbursts usually happen when you are put in a certain situation, then you should try avoiding those situations. For example, if you are predisposed to road rage then maybe try leaving for work a half hour earlier to avoid heavy traffic. In my case, I find that I tend to be more prone to anger outbursts when I’m in large crowds so I try to avoid them at all costs. I can’t always avoid crowds, but the event better be pretty special for me to expose myself to crowds and a possible outburst.

.

One last thing you will want to try to do is have a hobby or project that you enjoy or have been putting off set aside for you if you feel yourself ready to blow up. If it’s a hobby that you enjoy you will have something to look forward to when you walk away from a situation and if it’s a project you will be able to put all of your energy into the project that you’ve been putting off for months Before you know it the project will be done and you will be so proud of the fact that you have finally accomplished it that you will hopefully have forgotten what you were angry about.

While you may not be able to use all of the tips in this article to control anger outbursts, you should be able to put one to good use in almost everything situation. Using these tips will help you with everyday instances, but there are many other steps to be taken to really get a handle on anger issues and start using your angry energy for good things. The report that is found at 7offers.com/anger-management-help really helped me deal with my anger and get back on the right track. I think it would help you out as well.

Anger Management – Eight Tips to Help You Take the Edge Off
By Marelisa Fabrega

Anger is a healthy, normal emotion when you know how to express it appropriately. Anger management is about learning how to do this. Like Aristotle said, it’s about being angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way. Below you’ll find eight tips to help you take the edge off when you get angry, so that you can deal with your anger appropriately and respond to the situation effectively.

1. Take a time out. If you can, remove yourself from the situation that is making you angry until you can calm down. This can mean going for a walk, taking a bathroom break, or stepping into the next room for a couple of minutes. If you can’t leave, try to count up to ten before you respond.

2. Get physical. Physical activity is a great way to release the excess energy generated by anger. Participate in your favorite sport, whether it’s tennis, jogging, swimming, going for a bike ride, or taking a Tae Bo class.

3. Talk to someone about the situation. Psychologist Rich Walker of Winston-Salem State University explains that talking to others about a situation which has angered you reduces the emotional intensity of the memory. Walker says that storytelling works best when there is a lot of audience diversity; that is, it helps to tell the story many times to a variety of people.

4. Practice mindfulness. The Buddha would tell others: “Nobody is upsetting you. Nothing is upsetting you. You get upset because you are upsettable.” We need to understand that anger is a by-product of our way of thinking. By taking control of our mind we can take control of our life.

5. Make sure you’re assessing the situation accurately. Sometimes we get angry because we’ve misinterpreted a situation or someone else’s actions. The next time you get angry ask yourself the following questions about your interpretation of the situation:

- What evidence am I relying on?
- What assumptions am I making?
- Is there another equally believable interpretation of what is going on here?
- What is the best action I can take given this situation?
- If my best friend were in this situation, what advice would I give them?

6. Take up meditation. The ability to enter levels of deep relaxation is critical to the reduction of the potentially damaging physical tension and psychological stress caused by anger. Meditation is one of the best ways to induce deep relaxation quickly and effectively.

7. Separate the people from the problem. Instead of telling your spouse “you never take out the trash, you just don’t care about our home”, you can tell them the following: “when you forget to take out the trash it upsets me because having a clean home is very important to me”. This way you’re communicating to the other person that you’re upset with something they did, not with who they are. Once you separate the person from the problem you can both team up and attack the problem together, instead of attacking each other.

8. Keep an anger log. Keep a log in which you make a note every time something makes you angry. See if you can start detecting patterns: is there a particular type of situation or a specific person that triggers your anger? Are you more susceptible to getting angry when you’re hungry or if you didn’t get enough sleep? The aim of keeping an anger log is to identify specific things that make you angry so that you can plan on how to deal with these situations before they happen.

Learning to control anger is a huge task for some individuals. Wanting to and being able to do it are two entirely different things. A person with anger issues may be committed to making changes in their behavioral patterns in the heart and mind but without setting these intentions in motion, there won’t be any positive results.

People like this require encouragement and support. They need to realize that they are not unique in their problem but in fact there are thousands more just like them. Singling out an individual with anger management issues is not a good move. However encouraging them and letting them know they are not alone in this fight may make a difference in their decision to seek help.

An anger management course may be suggested to an individual seeking help for their problem. These courses are designed to help people, in a group setting, to learn about anger management. These courses may take a day and sometimes anger management courses are turned into a retreat. Throughout these courses, people are taught useful lessons in anger management such as techniques and strategies for controlling their anger.

They are taught to deal with their feelings and emotions, discover what it is that brings out the fits of rage. Some courses focus specifically on one topic, like letting go of negative emotions, releasing bad energy and transforming it into success and freedom. There are many lessons to be learned through attending an anger management course.

Anger management courses are not only targeted at adults. There are programs such as retreats and camps for children, adolescents and teenagers as well. Teenagers might take in an anger management course that is provided at a beautiful camp. Besides sitting in on classes and lectures with regards to the anger management course, there would also be opportunities to interact with other teenagers, to take part in fun activities and form friendships.

An anger management course for a teenager may result in a person forming their own support system, people to call on when they are overwhelmed by challenging situations. An anger management course can provide so much more than information.

An anger management course may be the most powerful tool an individual may use to combat their anger issues. For people who a trying daily to fight their negative emotions and deal with their anger, it is important to be involved in programs which offer support and understanding.

Attending an anger management course would prove to an individual that there are people who care, who understand and who are committed to helping them with their problem. In a group setting, an individual would not feel singled out and may not feel intimidated or humiliated. Because the entire group is experiencing similar problems, there would be a general sense of understanding.

If an individual is interested in attending an anger management course, perhaps they should check with local resources such as a doctor or medical professional. There is also likely to be a mental health organization or program in the area, they would definitely have details about upcoming anger management courses.

The Internet is also a great resource when seeking information about anger management related services, such as an anger management course. It is imperative to explore all possible avenues of support when seeking anger management help.

You might want to check this place out as they have a very good plan for teaching you how to manage your anger and put it to it’s most effective use. While it is on the net it does qualify for court ordered anger management as well. Learn Effective Anger Management
